In this post I would like to share and write about the activities I have created on Google Classroom. One of the requirements of our Innovating Learning and Teaching coursework is to create an online course for students where workload for students is 6 hours.
I have created a class named “Reception Bears Preschool” in Google Classroom. This is the link to my Google Classroom https://classroom.google.com/c/NDYxMzA0MDc2MDc0. Class Code is "f7io2xo".
In my online course I have decided to create two topics “Maths” and “Phonics”. I have created assignments, one quiz assignment and materials looking at Early Years learning goals for 40-60 months (4-5 years old) old children.
As I work with
young learners, and I don’t give homework to my students. Therefore, I have
decided to use Google Classroom as Continuous Provision at Home Learning for my
Reception students. Students can do it at their own convenient time. This is
not compulsory for all the students. Continuous provision at home is good for
parents who is interested and want to know what their child is learning at
school and how well they are doing.
I have created
three materials and two assignments under Phonics topic.
In Phonics,
there are two materials related to Tricky words phase 2. In one of them
students should listen to and sing “Tricky words rap song” to practice tricky
words and then practice writing them on the worksheet. In the second activity,
students should complete the Tricky words activity booklet. These activities
will cover “Recognising and reading common words and familiar sentences” and
“Writing and spelling some common words within simple sentences” learning
objectives in International Early Years Curriculum.
Furthermore,
there are 2 assignments and one material to practice writing and reading CVC
(Consonant Vowel Consonant) words. In the first assignment, students should
practice writing and reading CVC words. In the second assignment, students
should go to topmarks.co.uk website through the provided link and find the
missing sounds. In the third material which is presentation, students should read
CVC words and find the right picture. These activities will cover “Identifying
and blending sounds in simple words” and “Using phonic awareness to write words”
learning objectives in International Early Years Curriculum.
I have created
two materials and two assignments under Maths topic.
In Maths,
there is one material, YouTube song, about counting from one to ten forwards
and backwards. Students should listen to the song and practice counting
forwards and backwards. The next is an assignment where students should go
through the link and practice their counting and matching skills numbers from
one to ten. Through these, material and an assignment students will cover “Counting
through play activities, action songs, rhymes and games” and “How numbers
represent quantities and sets” learning objectives in International Early Years
Curriculum.
Moreover,
there is a material introduction of number “11”, where students will learn
different ways of making number 11, number formation and they will be asked to
complete some challenges related to the number. To strengthen this knowledge, I
have assigned an assignment to practice number formation. Through these two
activities students will cover “Exploring number in the environment and in
real-life contexts” learning objective in International Early Years Curriculum.
These all activities
I have assigned for students in Google Classroom will help students to
strengthen their Phonic and Maths skills in order to be able to start reading,
writing and recognizing numbers. All assigned resources will help to cover
several learning objectives as well. Workload is around 6 hours, students can
complete them at different time.
Word count:
580
I chose Google Classroom too. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteI like how well you explained the Google Classroom
ReplyDeleteIt sounds so great that, thanks to technology, even in mathematics, inteartive and engaging activities, like this song activity of yours can be performed. I think this is the best way to engage students in the subject!
